چکیده
BACKGROUND To describe associations between familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR) and refractive status. METHODS We conducted retrospective studies of patients with clinical diagnoses of familial exudative vitreoretinopathy from June 1986 through September 2000. All patients had cycloplegic refraction, visual acuity with correction, and underwent fundus examination. Ocular history since early childhood was described. RESULTS Nine patients were recruited. All had excessive myopia, which was noted since early childhood. Amblyopia was noted in seven of the nine patients. Asymmetric FEVR was found in four of the nine patients. In all four patients with asymmetric FEVR, anisometropia equal to or greater than 2.5D was noted. Myopia was higher and amblyopia was more severe in the eye more severely affected with FEVR. CONCLUSION Excessive myopia, anisometropia and amblyopia were more likely to occur in eyes with familial exudative vitreoretinopathy. Patients with asymmetric disease tended to have higher myopia in the eye with more severe degree of FEVR as compared with the paired eye and thus correlated with anisometropia.

Familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR) associated with infantile osteoporosis: case report.
Familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR) is an inherited blinding condition characterized by abnormal development of the retinal vasculature. The authors describe a rare case of the disease associated with severe infantile osteoporosis in a young female patient. The patient was submitted to multiple vitreoretinal procedures in both eyes due to tractional macular detachments. The case was com...

PURPOSE To evaluate retrospectively clinical features and surgical outcomes of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in juvenile patients. METHODS Between 1991 and 1996, 28 patients younger than 15 years of age with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (32 eyes) underwent the first surgical procedure, scleral buckling and/or pars plana vitrectomy, at our hospital. RESULTS The major types of juveni...

PURPOSE To describe an Australian pedigree of European descent with a variable autosomal dominant phenotype of: pediatric cortical cataract (CC), asymmetric myopia with astigmatism, familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR), and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). METHODS Probands with CC, FEVR, and POAG were enrolled in three independent genetic eye studies in Tasmania. Genealogy confirmed...

Two families with familial exudative vitreoretinopathy were studied in which platelet aggregation defects were found in all the affected members. The major defect observed was absent platelet aggregation with arachidonic acid. In addition platelet aggregation with collagen and adrenaline was reduced in one severely affected member. The implication of the platelet aggregation defect in the patho...
